The Chao Phraya River flows through Bangkok and past Ayutthaya, Thailand's old capital, granting it a unique status among rivers.

Ayutthaya*, founded in 1350, was the first capital of Thailand, known for its splendid temples and palaces. After its destruction by the Burmese in 1767, the capital shifted to Bangkok in 1782. Today, Bangkok is a vibrant metropolis, famous for its mix of traditional culture and modern urban life.

*Once one of the world’s largest cities of its time and a significant political, economic, and religious center.
